About our walk-in wardrobes in Whetstone

A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about long and double hanging planned around your clothes and room for a growing wardrobe.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Whetstone, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit walk-in wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Practical tips

Getting the most from walk-in wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Know what you’ll keep before planning
  • Count your coats and long garments

Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change, so the space keeps working. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We make and fit the units inside.

Questions we are often asked

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Whetstone?

Yes, Whetstone is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barnet and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Do you cover homes near Oakleigh Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Bedroom storage in Whetstone

In the area around Whetstone, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 32%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Whetstone, Historic England’s list includes Lawrence Campe Almshouses (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east, and St James's Primary School (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Purpose-built flats are home to about 41% of households in the area around Whetstone, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live in a flat close to Oakleigh Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your children go to Queenswell Infant & Nursery School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Swan Lane Open Space? Walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

There’s a place for both. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. For awkward rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Getting ready for fitting day

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
