Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Wood Green
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Wood Green
You do not need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. If your home has long and double hanging planned around your clothes and room for two wardrobes in one space, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Wood Green built before 1919, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What happens on fitting day
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Advice
The problems walk-in wardrobes solve
Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Rails are crammed, shelves overflow and shoes end up under the bed. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.
Walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
- A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
- Room for a growing wardrobe
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Top Rank Club, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.

Bedroom storage in Wood Green
Homes built before 1919 make up about 62% of the housing in the area around Wood Green, with about 13% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 10 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Wood Green. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 23% of households in the streets around Wood Green live in flats in converted or shared houses, based on Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
Close to Woodside Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For a family home near St Michael's CofE Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Wood Green
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Wood Green?
Yes, we work across Haringey, Wood Green included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Wood Green?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is ventilation important in a dressing room?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
