Walk-in wardrobes in South Tottenham, Haringey

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Tottenham, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
  • The right mix of long and short hanging

Need walk-in wardrobes in South Tottenham?

Walk-in wardrobes in South Tottenham: what you get

You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that’s for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room.

In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast usually sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. A large share of the homes around South Tottenham date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast, leaving the breast itself clear. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Fitted bedroom furniture in South Tottenham

Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the area around South Tottenham, with about 20% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of South Tottenham, 9 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Haringey has its own. Depending on your street in South Tottenham, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near Seven Sisters station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Near listed buildings like Parish Church of St Ann, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of South Tottenham, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Bruce Castle, about 1.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Is bespoke worth it?

A basic rail system is easy to change, and that has real appeal. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, painted to match the room. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

What affects the price in South Tottenham

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How big the furniture is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, use our contact form.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

Where other trades come in

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It’s useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Fixing the cause of damp
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Building work to create the room

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shoe storage
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Dressing table

What happens on fitting day

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work.
  3. You get a written quote for the design we’ve agreed, for you to read through.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The units are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in South Tottenham

My house in South Tottenham is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Seven Sisters station?

Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

In many homes, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls and still leave room to move. We’ll measure and plan it during the design visit.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We will talk it through at the design visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
