Fitted wardrobes across N22: what to expect
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about storage boxes stacked under the bed and a bedroom that never feels tidy.
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- A written quote follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- Once you’re happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place.
How our quotes work
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Why work with us
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Every London borough and the City of London covered
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote
Starting with a design visit
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

Homes across N22 and their bedrooms
Bedrooms across N22 might have alcoves, sloping ceilings, bulkheads or none of these. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
In N22, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 57%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 14%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than half of the homes in the N22 postcode district (about 57%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Older bedrooms typically have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. About 23% of households in N22 live in flats in converted or shared houses, according to Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so the way in is measured along with the room.
Noel Park: The wider area includes historic houses like Bruce Castle, about 1.2 miles east. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Alexandra Palace station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
Caring for painted furniture
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Let us know which walls face outside
- Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.
Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
What we do not do
It’s useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
Is bespoke worth it?
To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.
What to check before you book
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
What prompts fitted wardrobes
For some, it’s about a calmer room. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture, and everything has a place behind it.
Requests we hear often include:
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we have measured up.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. The materials are named in your written quote.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Do you cover N22?
Yes. We cover N22 and the rest of Haringey. To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
