Wall beds in Bounds Green: what you get

Our wall beds are made for homes in Bounds Green and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you’ll know beforehand. Most enquiries start with a study that doubles as a spare room and a bed that looks like cupboards by day, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Bounds Green, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Small back bedrooms and box rooms are common too, and they suit wall beds and other fitted storage well.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

FAQs: wall beds in Bounds Green

Do you cover homes near Bowes Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Bounds Green?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will you provide a mattress for the bed?

What matters most is that the mattress suits the mechanism. We go through the mechanism’s limits when we measure, so you can pick the right one.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

How are wall beds priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The bed size, the cabinet and any storage around it all make a difference. For a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Do you need wall beds in Bounds Green?

Often the bed is one part of a bigger plan. Cupboards and shelving either side make the whole wall useful.

Wall beds can help with:

  • Room for a desk and a guest bed
  • A bed that looks like cupboards by day
  • A proper bed instead of a sofa bed
  • A flexible room for a growing family

Close to O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground? Wall beds are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Bedrooms in Bounds Green: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 56% of the housing in the streets around Bounds Green, with about 15% built between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 8 entries within half a mile of the centre of Bounds Green. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 23% of households in the streets around Bounds Green live in flats in converted or shared houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.

Near listed buildings like St Leonard's House (judge Fuller's Almshouses), about 0.5 miles south-east of the centre of Bounds Green, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a flat near Bowes Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Pricing wall beds in Bounds Green

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Plan a cupboard for spare bedding
  • Let us know about the wall’s construction
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed

Follow the mechanism maker’s guidance each time you lower and lift the bed. Lower it steadily and keep the space in front clear, with children kept well back while it moves.

Check how much floor there is in front of the cabinet. You need clear space for the bed to come down, so plan where furniture will sit.

Fitting day, step by step

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. First, you let us know about the room and how you’d like it to work. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room, look at the wall and go through the design.
  3. We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are made in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.

Before we arrive

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a written quote. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
