- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
Loft storage designed for your room
Loft storage in Bounds Green
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there is often space going to waste. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. At the design visit in Bounds Green, we will see what fits. If you’re living with ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and a loft room with too many jobs, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Older homes like many around Bounds Green have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of the homes around Bounds Green date from then. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that isn’t. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Caring for painted furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
- Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, message us from the contact page and we will help.
Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.
Is it time for loft storage?
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It is a common need in a loft bedroom.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- Low eaves that nobody can use
Close to O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
Choosing a carpenter
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
Making use of awkward spaces in Bounds Green
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Bounds Green were built before 1919 (about 56%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 15%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Bounds Green, Historic England’s list includes St Leonard's House (judge Fuller's Almshouses) (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Porters and Walters Almshouses (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. More than half of the homes in the area around Bounds Green (about 56%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage.
Bruce Castle, about 2.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. For a flat near Bowes Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Questions we are often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bounds Green?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make loft storage for a home in Bounds Green?
Yes. Bounds Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

How fitting works for loft storage
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so it is useful to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote.
- The storage is made at our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

What we don’t do
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Any work on the structure of the house
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion

What it’s made from
Doors and drawer fronts
An access door into the eaves can match the rest of the fronts. It opens wide, so you can still get into the eaves. Around it, the fronts can be drawers, doors or a mix.
Birch plywood
Knee-wall drawers often carry a real load. Birch plywood suits them, as it is strong and holds screws well. It works well for longer shelves too.
