Wall beds in Palmers Green: what you get
A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you don’t need it and is lowered again at night. It lets one room do two jobs, so a guest room can double as a study or playroom. We build the cabinet around the bed to suit the room and finish it to match. We make wall beds from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a real mattress for visitors and room for a desk and a guest bed.
Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Palmers Green built before 1919, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Fitting day, step by step
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there is clear space in front to lower the bed.
- You receive a written quote for the wall bed and any storage.
- We build the cabinet in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinet in your home and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies.
- Before we leave we show you how to lower and lift the bed.

Ask for a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What it costs
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- The width and height of the space
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Questions from Palmers Green
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Palmers Green station?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
My house in Palmers Green is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Do you supply the mattress?
What matters most is that the mattress suits the mechanism. We go through the mechanism’s limits when we measure, so you can pick the right one.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.
Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
Shelf spans and depths are sized so they don’t sag.
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the bed to match the skirting or doors, hand painting works well.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.
Is it time for wall beds?
Some people are tired of sofa beds. A wall bed takes a proper mattress, chosen to suit its mechanism, and the bed sits flat on its frame.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A bed that looks like cupboards by day
- Storage built around a fold-down bed
- A study that doubles as a spare room
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
Close to Broomfield Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
