Fitted furniture across N13

About fitted wardrobes in N13

What goes inside is where a fitted wardrobe earns its place. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. Most enquiries start with musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Let us know about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

What goes into your quote

Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

Why work with us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • We work across all London boroughs
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us

Arranging a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Fitted wardrobes across N13: local notes

Many older bedrooms across N13 keep a chimney breast with an alcove on each side. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.

In N13, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 36%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Around a third of the homes in N13 (about 33%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. 5 of the 7 places in N13 with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in N13, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting.

Doors and drawer fronts

Where there’s room to open them, hinged doors give full access. In a narrow room, sliding doors save space, though only part of the inside is open at once.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces, and everything has a place behind it.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:

  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp

What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Questions from N13

Where is the furniture made?

It’s built in our workshop, to the sizes taken during the design visit. After that, we fit it in your home.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully at the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

It depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in N13?

Simply send us a few details through our contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, followed by a written quote.

Do you cover N13?

Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, N13 included.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
