Arnos Grove Wall Beds

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make wall beds for homes in Arnos Grove, each designed at a visit to your home.

Wall beds in Arnos Grove: what you get

The bed mechanism must be fixed securely, exactly as its maker specifies, into a wall or floor that is sound enough to hold it. We check the wall and floor at the design visit as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a storage wall with a bed inside and hiding the bed when it’s not in use.

Floors in older houses often slope, and a large share of the homes around Arnos Grove are that old. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions from Arnos Grove

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Arnos Grove?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Arnos Grove?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

How much space does a wall bed need?

It depends on the bed size and the mechanism. At the design visit we measure the room and check there is enough space in front.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Do you supply the mattress?

The mechanism maker sets limits on mattress size and weight. We go through the mechanism’s limits when we measure, so you can choose with confidence.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We come to measure and go through the bed, the storage and the finish.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Arnos Grove homes and wall beds

Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the streets around Arnos Grove, with about 28% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Arnos Grove include Arnos Grove Underground Station (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Broomfield House Broomfield Park (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The share of homes built before 1919 around Arnos Grove, about 46%, is well above the figure for Enfield as a whole, about 23%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.

Close to Broomfield Park? Keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright. For families living near Bowes Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For an older house near Syro-Malabar Catholic Church of London, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A bespoke wall bed takes more planning than buying a unit online. What you get is one design that suits the room and the way you use it. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

Why choose us

  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made and how to compare quotes.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

What wall beds can’t fix

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Making good the walls after other work
  • Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
  • Choosing a mattress for you
