Questions from Malden Rushett

Do you cover homes near Chessington South station?

Yes. We cover all of Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make wall beds for a home in Malden Rushett?

Yes, Malden Rushett is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Can a wall bed have storage around it?

Yes. We often design the bed as part of a wider storage wall, so the whole wall is useful. The design keeps clear space in front for the bed to fold down.

How we make wall beds for Malden Rushett

We build the bed housing from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. From the front, the folded bed can look like a set of tall cupboards, sitting quietly in the room. If you’re living with storage built around a fold-down bed and a proper bed instead of a sofa bed, that’s what wall beds are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars normally has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Malden Rushett, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. Skirting boards are cut around neatly.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

How fitting works for wall beds

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site. New paint needs gentle use while it cures.

Arranging a design visit

How we price wall beds

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The internal fittings
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

These details help when you contact us:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Bedroom storage in Malden Rushett

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Malden Rushett were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 23%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Malden Rushett include Rushett Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Claygate Common, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. If your children go to Chessington Community College or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
