Wall beds for your home in Noel Park

How we make wall beds for Noel Park

Not every mattress suits every wall bed, because the mechanism maker sets limits on size, depth and weight. We will talk through what suits the bed at the design visit, so the mattress you choose fits. Most enquiries start with a study that doubles as a spare room and a bed that looks like cupboards by day, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Sash windows are common in Victorian and Edwardian houses, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Noel Park built before 1919, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

FAQs: wall beds in Noel Park

Can you fit wall beds to the uneven walls of an older house in Noel Park?

Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Noel Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

It’s built in our workshop, to the sizes taken during the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the measuring visit.

  1. You get in touch and describe the room.
  2. We visit to measure the room and the way in, from the front door to the room itself.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The cabinet is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Why people ask for wall beds in Noel Park

Sofa beds aren’t always comfortable for regular use. With a wall bed, guests sleep on a real mattress, on a proper frame.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A bed that fills a little-used room
  • A storage wall with a bed inside
  • A real mattress for visitors
  • A study that doubles as a spare room

If you live near Ducketts Common, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Bedrooms in Noel Park: local notes

In the area around Noel Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 14%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List records 12 entries within half a mile of the centre of Noel Park. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 59% of homes in the area around Noel Park were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. A wall bed has to be fixed securely as its maker specifies, and in houses of that age the walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, so the fixings are chosen with care.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mark, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Top Rank Club, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Before and after fitting day

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
  • Think about how often the bed will be used
  • Plan where chairs and desks will sit
  • Lower and lift the bed steadily

If the bed ever feels different when you lower or lift it, stop using it and get in touch. The mechanism should only be adjusted as its maker allows.

Measure the space in front of the wall, not just the wall. The bed needs room to fold down, so plan where furniture will sit.
