Loft storage designed for your room
Loft storage in Noel Park
A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, each shaped to the room. For a home in Noel Park, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. People typically come to us about needing storage in a loft office and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Outside walls in houses from before 1919 are typically solid brick, which can be cold, so a gap and ventilation behind fitted storage help avoid condensation. A large share of the homes around Noel Park date from then. Any damp is dealt with before storage goes in.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece cannot reach. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.
Why choose Bespoke Carpentry in Noel Park
- Built around your room
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Work across the whole of London
- A spray or hand-painted finish
See how bespoke compares with ready-made and what to look for in a quote.
Is it time for loft storage?
Some people want to make more of a dormer. Built-in furniture in a dormer puts it to work. It adds storage without crowding the room.
Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:
- A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
- Unused space in a dormer
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
For a family home near Noel Park Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.
Choosing a carpenter
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Will the quote be in writing?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
What affects the price in Noel Park
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- How square the room is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.
Before the design visit
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- How you want to use the space
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- The type of home and how the room is reached
To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Storage in Noel Park homes: local notes
About 59% of the homes in the streets around Noel Park went up before 1919, and about 14% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Part of Noel Park is in the Noel Park Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 23% of households in the streets around Noel Park, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.
If you live near Ducketts Common, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mark, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.

What happens on fitting day
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Preparing the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Ask for a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Questions we are often asked
Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Noel Park?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Is Noel Park in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Noel Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?
Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
