Wall beds for your home in Hornsey

Wall beds in Hornsey

A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you do not need it and comes down when it is time to sleep. It lets one room do two jobs, like a spare room that’s also a study. We make the cabinet for your room and finish it to match. People usually come to us about a real mattress for visitors and a guest room that sits empty most of the time, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Hornsey, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Plastering or decorating the room
  • Choosing a mattress for you
  • Advice on your lease

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Common questions about wall beds

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hornsey?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hornsey station?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Do you supply the mattress?

What matters most is that the mattress suits the mechanism. We’ll explain its limits during the design visit, so you can choose with confidence.

Will a wall bed work on my wall?

It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism has to be fixed securely as its maker specifies, to a wall or floor that can take the load, so we check it during the design visit.

How much room do I need in front of a wall bed?

That varies with the size of the bed. We measure up and make sure the bed has room to fold down.

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Lower and lift the bed steadily
  • Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
  • Mention if the wall is a stud wall
  • Measure the clear space in front of the wall

If the bed ever feels different when you lower or lift it, stop using it and get in touch. Don’t try to adjust the mechanism yourself unless its maker says you can.

Tell us what the wall is made of if you know. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it during the design visit too.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Hornsey

In the streets around Hornsey, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 63%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Hornsey, Historic England’s list includes Tower of Old Parish Church of St Mary (Grade II*), under half a mile east, and Church of St John the Baptist (greek Orthodox) (Grade II*), less than half a mile east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Haringey sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of Holy Innocents, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. If you live near Priory Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. If your children go to St Mary's CofE Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish.

How fitting works for wall beds

At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. First, you tell us about the space.
  2. The design visit covers measuring, the wall and the layout. What the wall is made of matters, as the bed has to be fixed securely.
  3. You receive a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the bed and storage in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.

Preparing the room

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
