Need wall beds in Finsbury Park?

Wall beds in Finsbury Park: what you get

You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, and that shapes the design. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way when the bed is down. If your home has a flexible room for a growing family and a home office that also sleeps guests, that’s what wall beds are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Older bedrooms typically have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Finsbury Park are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Flats, leases and landlords

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

Boards, parts and paint

Shelves

We can add shelving around the bed to make use of the whole wall.

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek front, spray painting works well and is finished before it reaches you.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Finsbury Park homes and wall beds

Homes built before 1919 make up about 53% of the housing in the area around Finsbury Park, with about 20% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. The Brownswood Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Finsbury Park. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 48% of households in the area around Finsbury Park live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live in a flat close to Finsbury Park station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Witanhurst, about 2.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Engine House of Metropolitan Water Board, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Questions from Finsbury Park

Can you make wall beds for a home in Finsbury Park?

Yes. Finsbury Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

I live in a flat in Finsbury Park. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Wall beds are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can a wall bed have storage around it?

Yes, that is a common request. A desk beside the bed suits a room that is an office by day, while new sockets are for your electrician.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Fitting day, step by step

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we check what the wall is made of, as a wall bed has to be fixed securely as its maker specifies.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinet, the materials and the finish.
  4. The bed housing and any shelves or desk are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
  6. We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, message us from the contact page.

Is bespoke worth it?

A bespoke wall bed takes more planning than buying a unit online. In return, the cabinet, shelves and finish are designed together. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
