Russell Hill Wall Beds
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on wall beds in Russell Hill starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- A studio that works by day and night
- A proper bed instead of a sofa bed
- Room for a desk and a guest bed

What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, with heavier pieces tied into the studs. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinet, the materials and the finish.
- We build the cabinet in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinet in your home and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies.
- We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Ask for a quote
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Wall beds in Russell Hill
The mattress has to suit the mechanism, because the mechanism maker sets limits on size, depth and weight. We can go through what the mechanism allows when we measure, so the mattress you choose fits. People usually come to us about a bed that looks like cupboards by day and shelves or a desk around the bed; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 sometimes have big windows that take up much of a wall, so the remaining walls have to work harder. Many homes around Russell Hill were built since 2000, so we make the most of the walls you have. Corner sections are planned so nothing is wasted.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf units can leave gaps at the sides or top. We can build to the full height and width and fill the rest of the wall with storage. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. It’s then assembled and fixed in the room.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit.

How we price wall beds
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The internal fittings
- Parking near your home
- Doors and drawers, and how many
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Getting in touch
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.
Could you do it yourself?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Wall beds for homes in Russell Hill
In the area around Russell Hill, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 40%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Part of Russell Hill is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. All of London, Sutton included, is inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Russell Hill. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.
If your children go to Wallington Primary Academy or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. For an older house near St. Paul's, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near Waddon station? Then wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

FAQs: wall beds in Russell Hill
Is parking a problem for fitting in Russell Hill?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Russell Hill affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will a wall bed work on my wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, and we look at this when we measure.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. Our work is in London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
