College Park Window Seats
In College Park, we design window seats around the room you actually have. We design your window seat at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

- A radiator that makes the space hard to use
- Standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay

Questions from College Park
I live near Willesden Junction station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in College Park?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Can you fit a window seat under a sash window?
Yes. The seat is set below the cill so the window can still open and close. If there are working shutters, we leave room for them to fold back. We check all of this at the design visit.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What does a bespoke window seat cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A bay with angled sides involves more work than a straight recess, and drawers more than a lid. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.
Window seats in College Park: what you get
A window seat turns the light by a window into a place to sit. Our window seats are made for bays, sash windows and the recesses beside them, normally with storage below, under a lift-up lid or in drawers. In College Park, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. Typical reasons to get in touch are needing more storage in the room and a room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Where original shutters, doors or panelling survive, they’re worth designing around. With a large share of the homes around College Park built before 1919, fitted storage can be designed to sit alongside them. Door styles can be chosen to suit the age of the house. If your home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original joinery.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Window seats for homes in College Park
In the area around College Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 79%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 8%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of College Park. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. All of London, Hammersmith and Fulham included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in College Park, as it does anywhere else in London. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.
For families living near Kenmont Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Leighton House, about 2.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, window seats can be scribed to follow a bay that is rarely square. Near listed buildings like The Anglican Chapel, under half a mile south-east of the centre of College Park, older homes may keep original joinery that window seats can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
College Park is part of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, about 4 miles south of Fulham. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, College Park included. We list College Park among 16 places we cover in Hammersmith and Fulham.
Postcode districts we cover here for window seats: NW10, W10 and NW26. Whether you live on a street such as Tubbs Road, Waldo Road and Hythe Road or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for window seats. Close by, we also work in Kensal Green (1 mile east), Old Oak Common (1 mile south-west), Harlesden (1 mile north-west), Willesden Green (1 mile north) and Kensal Rise (1 mile east). We also make window seats in nearby places such as Fulham (4 miles south), Parsons Green (4 miles south), Walham Green (4 miles south-east), West Brompton (4 miles south-east), Hurlingham (4 miles south) and Chelsea Harbour (4 miles south-east).

Why bespoke in College Park?
Off-the-shelf benches come in the maker’s finishes. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the skirting, the shutters or the walls. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so off-the-shelf pieces either don’t fit or leave a gap either side. Furniture made for the space fills it.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting suits panels, grilles and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
Lift-up lids
Lift-up lids are a simple way to add storage under a seat. Any cushion has to come off before the lid can lift, so it is best for occasional storage.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so window seats are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- You get in touch and describe the window.
- At the design visit we measure each side of the bay, because walls in older houses are rarely square.
- A written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we make each section of the seat from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the seat in your home, trimming the edges to meet the walls and cill.
Before fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
