About fitted wardrobes in W10
The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own, so nothing is squashed and no height is wasted. It is useful to think about what you wear most before we meet. Most enquiries start with a room too narrow for hinged doors and empty alcoves in the bedroom; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.
What affects the price in W10
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Why work with us
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- Designed for the room you have
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
- Every quote follows a design visit
Getting a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across W10
If your bedroom in W10 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. Where there is not one, fitted wardrobes can run along a full wall instead. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.
In the W10 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 58%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than half of the homes in W10 (about 58%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths. About 29% of households in W10 live in flats in converted or shared houses, based on Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it’s worth checking yours first.
Homes across W10 range from period terraces to modern blocks, and we work in all of them. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Kensal Town: For a flat near Queens Park (London) station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is one of the older houses near St Thomas Kensal Town, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Boards, parts and paint
Hanging rails
Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Plinths and scribe strips
Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It is what gives a fitted wardrobe its built-in look.
Caring for painted furniture
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall in advance
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then to keep them running smoothly. Clear anything that falls into it.
Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose and adjust doors before a rub marks the paint.
Flats, leases and landlords
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard wardrobes cannot follow a slope. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line.
What to check before you book
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How parking will work on your street
What we do not do
Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
Questions we are often asked
Do you work outside London?
No. Our work is in London only: every London borough and the City of London.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We talk through both at the design visit.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it.
How long will the fitting take?
The time on site depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in W10?
Yes, we do. We work in W10 and across Kensington and Chelsea.
Where is the furniture made?
Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it’s going into, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
