Window seats in Gunnersbury, Hounslow

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on window seats in Gunnersbury starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • A radiator under the window getting in the way
  • An empty bay that doesn’t get used
  • A period room that needs furniture to suit it

Gunnersbury homes and window seats

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Gunnersbury were built before 1919 (about 37%) and since 2000 (about 23%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Gunnersbury, Historic England’s list includes Zoffany House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-west, and Arlington Cottages (Grade II), under half a mile east. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The share of homes built before 1919 around Gunnersbury, about 37%, is well above the figure for Hounslow as a whole, about 16%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.

If you live near Turnham Green, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and window seats can give those things a place. If you live in a flat close to Gunnersbury station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For families living near Strand-on-the-Green Junior School, window seats can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Gunnersbury is about 4 miles south-west of Hounslow, in the London Borough of Hounslow. We cover Gunnersbury as part of our work across Hounslow, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Hounslow.

Window seats in Gunnersbury

A window seat can be part of a larger piece of furniture. Bookshelves either side of a window, with a seat between, make a quiet place to read. We design the seat and the surrounding units together, so the lines and the finish match. It is worth talking through during the design visit in Gunnersbury. If your home has standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay and a recess under the window doing nothing, that’s what window seats are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In an older home, panelled doors and painted mouldings may suit; in a newer one, plain flat doors may fit better. Whatever your home in Gunnersbury is like, the door style is part of the design conversation. The paint colour is agreed with you, whichever finish you pick.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

What affects the price in Gunnersbury

There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking and unloading on your street

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the design visit.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it is useful to send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Your postcode and the borough

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Painting the walls of the bay
  • Moving or replacing a radiator, which is for your plumber
  • Repairs to sash windows, cills or shutters

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Your questions about window seats in Gunnersbury

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Gunnersbury station?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Is Gunnersbury in the area you cover for window seats?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Gunnersbury is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Which materials go into your window seats?

Our window seats are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Next to a window, the moisture-resistant grade is a sensible choice. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

How is a window seat priced?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. It depends on the size and shape of the window, the storage you want and the finish. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Whatever the age of your home, the furniture is fitted to the walls you have, scribed where walls bow and levelled where floors slope. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.

  1. You get in touch and describe the window.
  2. We visit to measure the angles of the bay and the floor, and discuss the design.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we make each section of the seat from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the seat in your home, trimming the edges to meet the walls and cill, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

How to prepare

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Ask for a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Tips worth knowing

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Consider adding shelving around the seat
  • Think about what you’ll store under the seat
  • Decide on cushion thickness before the design visit
  • Mention any parking rules on your street

We can give you the seat measurements for a cushion maker. Let the paint cure before the cushion goes on, so the fabric doesn’t stick or mark the finish.

Every so often, look at the hinges and any handles. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us.

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
