Bespoke kitchens in Gunnersbury: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 37% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Gunnersbury, with about 23% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. The centre of Gunnersbury is within about a quarter of a mile of the Thorney Hedge Conservation Area. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hounslow is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Gunnersbury fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
Gunnersbury Park, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If your children go to Strand-on-the-Green Junior School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. Near listed buildings like Zoffany House, about 0.5 miles south-west of the centre of Gunnersbury, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Gunnersbury is about 4 miles south-west of Hounslow, within the London Borough of Hounslow. Design visits and fitting in Gunnersbury can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. In Hounslow, Gunnersbury is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 25 places on our list.
In W4, W3 and TW8, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Kew Road, Kent Road and Power Road, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. Main roads around Gunnersbury include the A3000, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside Gunnersbury, we also cover Strand-on-the-Green (1 mile south), Kew (1 mile south), Grove Park (1 mile south-east), Chiswick (1 mile east) and Turnham Green (1 mile south-east). We also make bespoke kitchens in nearby places such as Hounslow (4 miles south-west), Feltham (7 miles south-west), Isleworth (3 miles south-west), Woodlands (3 miles south-west), Lampton (4 miles west) and Hounslow West (5 miles west).

Green spaces nearby include Kew Gardens Lake.
About our bespoke kitchens in Gunnersbury
We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering tricky gaps. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it’s fitted. Most enquiries start with room for everything in the kitchen and a kitchen island with room around it; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, no two kitchens have quite the same walls and floors. Cabinets are scribed and levelled on site so doors and drawers line up. The carcasses are moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions we’re often asked
I live in a flat in Gunnersbury. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do you cover homes near Gunnersbury station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What materials do you use for kitchens?
Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do you do the plumbing and electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.
Where other trades come in
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
- Moving water or waste pipes
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
What goes into it
- Larders and dressers
- Hand-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Islands where space allows
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What happens on fitting day
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
- At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish.
- We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How to get a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

How it’s made
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors and drawer fronts can be flat, framed or panelled and paint them to your choice.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF gives a smooth surface for painted doors, and the moisture-resistant grade suits a kitchen.
Looking after your furniture
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Let us know about parking at the measuring visit
- Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
- Think about how you cook and what you store
- Talk to your other trades in good time
Do not leave water sitting on painted cabinets, particularly near the sink. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.
It helps to know which appliances you want early. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.
Flats, leases and landlords
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
