Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Addiscombe
I live near Norwood Junction station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Addiscombe?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on, so check it or ask your managing agent.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Addiscombe
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a kitchen finished in your colours and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers.
The inside of a kitchen matters as much as the doors. Whatever your kitchen in Addiscombe is like, the design visit starts with how you cook. Pan drawers, a larder and somewhere for the recycling are planned in early. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Addiscombe
Several things affect the price:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The width and height of the space
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Getting in touch
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
What bespoke kitchens can’t fix
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
- Moving water or waste pipes
- Any work on the gas supply
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Larders and dressers
- Islands where space allows
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
Is bespoke worth it?
There’s a place for both. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. For period homes, tricky rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, while fitted furniture is drawn for the room it goes into. The finish is chosen to suit the space.
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
What you get with us
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
- Scribed to uneven walls

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.
- You tell us about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Preparing the room
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Arranging a design visit
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Addiscombe?
Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more than a row of standard wall units.
Bespoke kitchens can help with:
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- Extra cupboard space
- A dresser that suits a period house
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
If your home is one of the older houses near St Mildred's Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
Addiscombe homes and bespoke kitchens
In the streets around Addiscombe, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Addiscombe include Church of St Mildred (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and Addiscombe Farm Cottage (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 44% of homes in the streets around Addiscombe were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Kitchens in houses of that age often sit in a narrow back addition, with walls and floors that aren’t true, so each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site.
Close to Ashburton Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses like Addington Palace, about 2 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
