Addiscombe Fitted Wardrobes
In Addiscombe, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall

About our fitted wardrobes in Addiscombe
Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. The layout is planned so the room does not feel boxed in. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall.
Whether your home in Addiscombe is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, the furniture starts from your room, not a standard size. On an external wall, ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps keep condensation away. Shelves, drawers and any hanging are arranged around your things.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Addiscombe?
A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty, keeping the room clear.
Fitted wardrobes can help with:
- An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- Not enough hanging space
Close to Ashburton Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Before you choose who makes it
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
What affects the price in Addiscombe
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How big the furniture is
- Doors and drawers, and how many
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you get in touch
These details help when you get in touch:
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- How you want to use the space
- Your postcode and the borough
- Examples of the look you are after
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
How fitting day works
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. Either way, the day is planned at the measuring visit. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Getting a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you cover homes near Norwood Junction station?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Addiscombe?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes, as long as it is ventilated. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.
How do I get started?
It is easiest to message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. The slope is measured at the measuring visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.
How it’s made
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room before the final coat. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Addiscombe
About 44% of the homes in the streets around Addiscombe went up before 1919, and about 27% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Addiscombe include Church of St Mildred (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and Addiscombe Farm Cottage (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Addiscombe is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
For a flat near Norwood Junction station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Addington Palace, about 2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
