Bespoke kitchens in Woodside
We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. People usually come to us about a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a kitchen, the paint colour sets the feel of the room. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish from the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site and touched up easily. Whatever your home in Woodside is like, the choice is yours.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

How fitting day works
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.
- You tell us about the room and how you use it.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Preparing the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
How to get a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Woodside homes and bespoke kitchens
About 44% of the homes in the streets around Woodside went up before 1919, and about 26% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodside include Church of St Luke (Grade II), under half a mile north-east, and Woodside Cottage (Grade II), less than half a mile north. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
For families living near St Thomas Becket Catholic Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. Close to Ashburton Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a flat near Norwood Junction station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
What it costs
What you pay depends on:
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How square the room is
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Examples of the look you’re after
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted kitchen can be refreshed over time.
Larder and dresser units
Dressers suit many period kitchens, and each is made for its wall.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
Questions from Woodside
I live near Norwood Junction station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Woodside?
Yes. Woodside is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It helps to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route as well as the room.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
