Bespoke Kitchens in Rush Green

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in Rush Green, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • An island where space allows

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Rush Green

Others want the kitchen to suit the age of the house. Painted cabinets, a dresser or a larder can sit well with original features and look as if they belong.

Requests we hear often include:

  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A kitchen finished in your colours
  • A dresser that suits a period house

Living in a block of flats near Romford station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

What to check before you book

  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

About our bespoke kitchens in Rush Green

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. Typical reasons to get in touch are extra cupboard space and spaces sized for your oven and fridge, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Rush Green, that is a feature worth designing around. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

There is a place for both. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. Where the room is awkward, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is usually worth considering. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Fitting day, step by step

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. First, you tell us about the room.
  2. We visit, measure and go through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The kitchen is made at our workshop.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.

Before fitting day

  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

How to get a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Practical tips

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one
  • Mention any parking or lift rules

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, so hinges allow small adjustments later.

Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. We can’t advise on your lease.

Kitchens in Rush Green homes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Rush Green were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 45%) and since 2000 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Rush Green include Church of St Andrew (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Havering has its own. If your street in Rush Green is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

For an older house near St Augustine of Canterbury Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. For a family home near Rush Green Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

When is bespoke worth it?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Questions from Rush Green

Is Rush Green in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Rush Green is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do you cover homes near Romford station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

If the room is big enough, yes. At the design visit we check the clearances around it. If it would crowd the kitchen, we will say so.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that are not straight?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.
