Bespoke kitchens for your home in Benhilton

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

About our bespoke kitchens in Benhilton

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. Typical reasons to get in touch are open shelves with cupboards below and extra cupboard space; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. Around Benhilton, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Benhilton

Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and look as if they belong.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:

  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • Tall larder storage
  • Open shelves with cupboards below

For a family home near All Saints Benhilton CofE Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Where other trades come in

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Painting the walls around the kitchen

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Benhilton

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Benhilton?

Yes. Benhilton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Sutton and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Benhilton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We will also ask about access and parking, and a quote in writing follows.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Kitchens in Benhilton homes

In the area around Benhilton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Benhilton is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Terraced houses are home to about 30% of households in the neighbourhood around Benhilton, based on Census 2021. Terraced houses often have long, narrow kitchens, so cabinets made to the room’s exact widths make a difference.

If you live near Manor Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For an older house near All Saints Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and normally cost less, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
  2. We visit to measure and discuss the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
