Flats, blocks and rented homes

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we have measured the way in.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Bespoke kitchens in Roundshaw

Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet giving a level line for the worktop you choose. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a larder for food and small appliances and making the most of a galley kitchen.

Homes built since 2000 rarely have a separate utility room, so a tall cupboard for laundry and cleaning things can help. Around Roundshaw, many homes were built since 2000. Plumbing for appliances is for your plumber, and the cabinets are made around the appliances you choose.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Roundshaw

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wallington station?

Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room.

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Roundshaw?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this during the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Roundshaw

Homes built since 2000 make up about 40% of the housing in the streets around Roundshaw, with about 27% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Roundshaw is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Roundshaw is covered by it. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to Wallington station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Waddon Ponds, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Roundshaw?

People also want a kitchen that is built to last and can be repainted, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up over the years.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • More storage in a small kitchen

For an older house near St. Paul's, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Real projects you can actually look at

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, while fitted furniture can give the space structure.

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so it is useful to sort them out beforehand. Kitchens are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Getting a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
