Bespoke kitchens in Luxted

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about spaces sized for your oven and fridge and cabinets for a narrow kitchen.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Luxted, that is a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

How we price bespoke kitchens

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The internal fittings
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Helping us understand the room

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form. The written quote follows the visit.

Questions we’re often asked

Do you cover homes near Chelsfield station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Is Luxted in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Luxted is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

How long does fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Mention any parking or lift rules

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.

Luxted homes and bespoke kitchens

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 29% of the housing in the area around Luxted, with about 25% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Luxted, Historic England’s list includes Down House (Grade I), about 0.5 miles north, and Luxted Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Luxted is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

For an older house near Church of St Peter and St Paul, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For a family home near Cudham Church of England Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.

How fitting day works

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. We visit, measure and go through the layout, larder, dresser or island.
  3. A written quote is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets in another room while we work

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Luxted

Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • Extra cupboard space
  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen

If you live in a flat close to Chelsfield station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Choosing a carpenter

  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix

It is useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • New sockets or circuits
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Making good walls and ceilings

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
