How it’s made
Birch plywood
Kitchen drawers carry heavy pans and plates, so birch plywood is a good choice.
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.
Bespoke kitchens in Cowley: what you get
Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. There needs to be enough clear floor around it to open doors and move about, because a cramped island makes a kitchen harder to work in. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. People usually come to us about a central island in a larger kitchen and making the most of a galley kitchen; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, no two kitchens have quite the same walls and floors. Cabinets are scribed and levelled on site so doors and drawers line up. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the finish is agreed in your quote.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Fitted furniture is made to the room.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside during the design visit.
Why us?
- Designed for the room you have
- We work across all London boroughs
- Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
What happens on fitting day
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working.
- We come to measure up and plan the layout with you, including where the sink and appliances will go.
- You get a quote in writing for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We do not arrange those trades, so it’s useful to book them early.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Starting with a design visit
We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Parking near your home
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, use our contact form.
Getting in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Is Cowley in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, we work across Hillingdon, Cowley included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Cowley?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Can I have a kitchen island?
Yes, where there is space. We measure at the design visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. It is one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

Kitchens in Cowley homes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 29% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Cowley, with about 26% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Cowley include Church of St Laurence (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Maygood's Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Hillingdon has its own. Depending on your street in Cowley, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. We ask about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Ickenham Hall, about 2.9 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. Living in a block of flats near West Drayton station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For a family home near Cowley St Laurence CofE Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.
Cowley is within the London Borough of Hillingdon, about 5 miles north-east of Ruislip. Homes in Cowley are part of the area we cover for bespoke kitchens. In Hillingdon, Cowley is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 17 places on our list.
