How we make bespoke kitchens for South Ruislip
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Walls lean, corners aren’t square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. Most enquiries start with a dresser that suits a period house and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around South Ruislip, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in South Ruislip
Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. Painted cabinets, a dresser or a larder can sit well with original features and look as if they belong.
Some of the things we are asked to solve include:
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
- Extra cupboard space
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- Tall larder storage
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in South Ruislip
I live near South Ruislip station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in South Ruislip?
Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and South Ruislip is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, though we still measure the route in as well as the room. Kitchens arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Looking after your furniture
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
- Allow space to walk round an island
- Mention any parking or lift rules
- Make a note of what you use every day
Don’t leave water sitting on painted cabinets, especially around the sink and dishwasher. Moisture-resistant MDF copes well, but standing water is best avoided.
Think about how the cabinets will get in. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about tight turns or small lifts.
