Bespoke Kitchens in Emerson Park

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Emerson Park starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Emerson Park

Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose

If your children go to Nelmes Primary School or a school nearby, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.

What to check before you book

  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

How we make bespoke kitchens for Emerson Park

An island can be a good addition where there’s space for one. We check there is comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. Where space is tight, a peninsula or a longer run may suit better. People normally come to us about a larder for food and small appliances and spaces sized for your oven and fridge, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Emerson Park, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Kitchens in Emerson Park homes

In the area around Emerson Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 38%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 23%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Emerson Park, Historic England’s list includes Well Tower at Tower Lodge (Grade II), under half a mile west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Emerson Park is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Hare Hall, about 1.2 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. Close to Haynes Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Emerson Park is in the London Borough of Havering, about 2 miles west of Romford. Anywhere in Emerson Park, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our work takes in places right across Havering, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and typically cost less and they suit many newer homes. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Emerson Park

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Emerson Park?

Yes, we work across Havering, Emerson Park included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Emerson Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. That’s a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

What are your kitchens made from?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Door style makes a big difference to the look, whether plain or framed.

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes to the room
  • Gas work, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
  • Wiring for appliances and lights

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
