Bespoke kitchens for homes in Rainham
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 47% of the housing in the streets around Rainham, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 11 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Rainham. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Havering is no exception. If your road in Rainham falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
If your children go to Rainham Village Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If you live in a flat close to Rainham (Essex) station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Bespoke kitchens in Rainham: what you get
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If you’re living with spaces sized for your oven and fridge and an island where space allows, that’s what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Around Rainham, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

What happens on fitting day
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
Older kitchens often lack storage. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more without crowding the room.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- An island where space allows
If you live near Wildspace Conservation Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
Before you choose who makes it

- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Will the quote be in writing?
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Rainham
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Rainham?
Yes, Rainham is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Rainham?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?
Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
Do you supply the worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Practical tips
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Measure the route into the kitchen
Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time isn’t good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Damp behind units can lead to mould, particularly on external walls.
What we do not do
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
- Any work on the gas supply
- Moving water or waste pipes
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
