Elm Park Bespoke Kitchens

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Elm Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • A kitchen for a room that isn’t square
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose

Bespoke kitchens for your home in Elm Park

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Standard cabinets come in set widths, so the room has to fit the units. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why choose Bespoke Carpentry in Elm Park

  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
  • Saturdays by prior arrangement
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Scribed to uneven walls

How we make bespoke kitchens for Elm Park

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen island with room around it and a dresser that suits a period house.

A larger semi or detached house may have room for a utility area or boot room by the back door. Much of the housing around Elm Park is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Tall cupboards for the washing machine, coats and cleaning things can be made to match the kitchen. Plumbing for any appliance is for your plumber.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Bespoke kitchens in Elm Park: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in the streets around Elm Park, with about 25% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Havering sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 58% of households in the streets around Elm Park, the 2021 Census shows. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

If your children go to Elm Park Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. For a flat near Emerson Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Rainham Hall, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Elm Park is within the London Borough of Havering, about 2 miles north of Romford. Wherever you are in Elm Park, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Elm Park is one of 22 places on our list for Havering.

In RM12 and RM13, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. You will find streets here like Park Lane, Wood Lane and Carfax Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. If you’re just outside Elm Park, we also cover South Hornchurch (1 mile south-west), Rush Green (2 miles north-west), Dagenham (2 miles west), Romford (2 miles north) and Rainham (2 miles south). Elsewhere in Havering, we also cover Gallows Corner (3 miles north), Heath Park (2 miles north), Collier Row (3 miles north), Upminster (2 miles east), Ardleigh Green (3 miles north) and Emerson Park (2 miles north-east). Elm Park is among the bigger places we cover in Havering.

What affects the price in Elm Park

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How square the room is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What to send when you contact us

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Fitting day, step by step

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and go through the layout, storage and finish, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Arranging a design visit

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Caring for painted furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Check there is room around an island before planning one
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time isn’t good for any finish. Good ventilation helps paintwork last.

It helps to know which appliances you want early. Their sizes shape the cabinets, so late changes can be tricky.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

Questions we are often asked

Do you cover homes near Emerson Park station?

Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Elm Park?

Yes, we work across Havering, Elm Park included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

How are bespoke kitchens priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Every kitchen is different, so we quote once we have measured. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that are not straight?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
