Bespoke kitchens for homes in Foots Cray
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are room for everything in the kitchen and making the most of a galley kitchen.
A good share of the homes around Foots Cray were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Kitchens from that era are often compact and regular in shape, so cabinets made to the room’s own widths make the most of every wall. Wall cabinets need fixings chosen for the wall, whether concrete, block or brick.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for many kitchen doors and panels, as it stays stable and takes paint well.
Doors and drawer fronts
The style of the doors sets the tone of the kitchen, whether plain or framed.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Foots Cray
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Sidcup station?
Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Foots Cray?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can I have a kitchen island?
If the room is big enough, yes. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.
What are your kitchens made from?
MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours you choose.
Foots Cray homes and bespoke kitchens
About 51% of the homes in the streets around Foots Cray went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Foots Cray include Frognal House (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Parish Church of All Saints (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. More than half of the homes in the area around Foots Cray (about 51%) were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Kitchens from that era tend to be small and regular, which suits cabinets made to their exact size.

If you live in a flat close to Sidcup station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and usually cost less, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. A ready-made unit pushed back to the wall leaves a gap above the skirting, and that gap catches dust and wastes depth. Fitted furniture is scribed over the skirting or set on its own plinth.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Before and after fitting day
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. These habits help most:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Let us know about parking at the design visit
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a post-war block of flats, the route in may include communal stairs, landings and a lift, so kitchens are made in sections sized for each. Tell us about any building rules on lifts or working hours during the design visit.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift. Tell us about parking too, as a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Preparing the room
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Ask for a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
