Bespoke kitchens designed for your room

About our bespoke kitchens in Bexley

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. If your home has making the most of a galley kitchen and spaces sized for your oven and fridge, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Around Bexley, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Boards, parts and paint

Doors and drawer fronts

Door style makes a big difference to the look, whether plain or framed.

Hand-painted finish

Touching up or repainting is straightforward with a hand-painted finish.

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the design visit.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Bexley station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bexley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, to give a level line for the worktop. It’s one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

What are your kitchens made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours agreed with you.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Bexley

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • The internal fittings

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Getting in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough measurements. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Kitchens in Bexley homes

In the neighbourhood around Bexley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 45%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Bexley include Parish Church of St John the Evangelist (Grade II), less than half a mile east, and Styleman's Almshouses (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home in Bexley is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Danson Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Red House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For families living near Old Bexley Church of England School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.
