Bespoke kitchens for homes in Belvedere
Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. We check there is comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about spaces sized for your oven and fridge and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers.
In a kitchen, the paint colour sets the feel of the room. Cabinets can be spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site. For a kitchen in Belvedere, either can work, and the colour is agreed with you.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What happens on fitting day
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so let us know what’s near you during the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Preparing the room
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

What affects the price in Belvedere
The price for your room depends on:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Getting in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Belvedere
Homes built before 1919 make up about 26% of the housing in the area around Belvedere, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Belvedere include Parish Church of All Saints (Grade II), under half a mile south-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Belvedere is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If you live in a flat close to Belvedere station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Red House, about 2.3 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Belvedere is in the London Borough of Bexley, about 4 miles south-west of Sidcup. We design and make bespoke kitchens for homes in Belvedere and across Bexley. Across Bexley, we cover Belvedere, along with the rest of the borough.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Belvedere
Others want the kitchen to suit the age of the house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and suit the house’s character.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
- Tall larder storage
- A dresser that suits a period house
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
Close to Lesnes Abbey Woods? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Will the quote be in writing?
Questions from Belvedere
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Belvedere?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Belvedere?
Yes, Belvedere is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bexley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
How much time does fitting need?
Every kitchen is different. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Flats, leases and landlords
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Could you do it yourself?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
