Bespoke kitchens for your home in Grove Park

Bespoke kitchens in Grove Park: what you get

Some kitchens suit a dresser, with cupboards below and open shelves above, and it suits many period homes. Each dresser is made for its wall and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are room for everything in the kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances.

In a semi or detached house, there may be space for a utility cupboard as well as the kitchen. Much of the housing around Grove Park is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Utility cupboards can be made in the same style and paint colour as the kitchen. Your plumber connects any washing machine or sink.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, leases and landlords

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

What happens on fitting day

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout, where space allows.
  3. A written quote is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. It’s useful to have those trades booked in good time.

Before we arrive

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Getting a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Advice

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Saturdays by arrangement
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or what a quote should include.

Practical tips

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Make a note of what you use every day
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Make sure an island will not crowd the room
  • Share the layout with your other trades

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.

Grove Park homes and bespoke kitchens

About 61% of the homes in the streets around Grove Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 15% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Grove Park include Baring Hall Hotel and associated stable block (Grade II), under half a mile south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 7% of homes around Grove Park were built before 1919, well below the figure for Lewisham as a whole, about 36%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So the walls behind kitchens here are more likely to be later brick, block or plasterboard, and they’re checked at the design visit.

If you live near Chinbrook Meadows, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Living in a block of flats near Grove Park station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Eltham Palace, about 1.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Questions from Grove Park

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Grove Park station?

Yes, homes across Lewisham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Is Grove Park in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. Grove Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Lewisham and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

MDF for smooth painted parts and birch plywood for drawer boxes and shelves. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking near your home
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
