About our bespoke kitchens in Surrey Canal
We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If your home has a kitchen planned around your appliances and a layout for a small or awkward room, that’s what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Kitchens in newer homes often face onto a balcony door or a large window, which leaves fewer walls for cabinets. Since many homes around Surrey Canal date from 2000 onwards, tall larders and a peninsula, where there’s room, can make up the storage. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Around a third of the homes in the area around Surrey Canal (about 37%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Newer homes normally have open-plan kitchens with plasterboard walls, so the cabinet fixings are chosen for the board.
Living in a block of flats near South Bermondsey station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For an older house near St Katharine with St Bartholomew, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your children go to Ilderton Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

What it costs
There is no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- The overall size of the piece
- The number of doors and drawers
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Any ideas or images you have saved
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough sizes. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Fitting day, step by step
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber.
- First, you let us know about the kitchen you have and the one you want.
- We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design, including where the sink and appliances will go.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas.
Preparing the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Ask for a quote
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Why bespoke in Surrey Canal?
A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves tricky gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Surrey Canal?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London, and Surrey Canal is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Surrey Canal?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Tips worth knowing
Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Wipe up spills promptly
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Make a note of what you use every day
New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.
