Bespoke kitchens in St Johns: what you get
We make kitchens for homes in St Johns and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your home has room for everything in the kitchen and tall larder storage, that’s what kitchens are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Where the sink, cooker and boiler can go often depends on where the pipes and power already are. For a kitchen in St Johns, the layout is planned with the existing services in mind. Your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do any moving.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
- We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
Before fitting day
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Arranging a design visit
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?
Standard cabinets come in set widths, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Ours are made to fit the room from wall to wall. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have at least one. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in St Johns
Several things affect the price:
- How square the room is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- The width and height of the space
- Parking and unloading on your street
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What we need to know
These details help when you get in touch:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What else we make in St Johns
Kitchens in St Johns: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 36% of the housing in the streets around St Johns, with about 32% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. St Johns is partly covered by the Brookmill Road Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. For fitting in St Johns, a van typically needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Tell us what parking is near you during the design visit.
If you live near Brookmill Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a flat near St Johns station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to Ashmead Primary School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in St Johns
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in St Johns?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London, and St Johns is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in St Johns?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
What are your kitchens made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours you choose.
Can you build an island in my kitchen?
If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the design visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around their work.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
