Bespoke kitchens in Hook: what you get

Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Hook and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, then a written quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan around it. If your home has more storage in a small kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below, kitchens made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Around Hook, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working.
  2. We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Ask for a quote

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Advice

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Getting in touch

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Practical tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Measure the route into the kitchen not just the room. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so let us know about any narrow spots.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Hook

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hook?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chessington North station?

Yes. We cover all of Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Hook homes and bespoke kitchens

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 43% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Hook, with about 35% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hook include Orchard Court (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 43% of homes in the streets around Hook date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the kitchen is designed for the room as it is now.

For a family home near St Paul's CofE Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. Close to Stokes Field? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If you live in a flat close to Chessington North station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

How it’s made

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters in drawers and shelves that carry weight. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Moisture-resistant MDF

For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it stays flat.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

There’s a place for both. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. Where the room is tricky, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is normally worth considering. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and those are common in interwar houses. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
