Bespoke kitchens designed for your room

Bespoke kitchens in Southborough

We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If your home has a kitchen that fits an uneven room and a painted dresser for the kitchen, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Islands only work where there is room to walk round them. Around Southborough, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and some of those kitchens have been opened up enough to take one. We check the clearances at the measuring visit. Your plumber and electrician run any services to it.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.

Where other trades come in

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:

  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • New sockets or circuits
  • Structural changes to the room

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Southborough

In the neighbourhood around Southborough, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 35%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Southborough include Turpington Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and The Chequers Public House (Grade II), less than half a mile east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Bromley are set locally. If your road in Southborough falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. We ask about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Bromley Palace, about 1.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For an older house near St Augustine's Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For a family home near Southborough Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

Southborough is about 3 miles east of Orpington, within the London Borough of Bromley. From period terraces to newer flats in Southborough, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. In Bromley, Southborough is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 49 places on our list.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Southborough

Is Southborough in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Southborough included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do you cover homes near Bickley station?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It helps to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally straightforward, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. Kitchens arrive in sections and are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the kitchen.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout, where space allows.
  3. You receive a written quote.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Could you do it yourself?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
