Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site, once the kitchen is fitted. It’s easy to touch up later.
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for many kitchen doors and panels, because it copes with a room that gets warm and steamy.
Bespoke kitchens in Petts Wood
We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. If you are living with making the most of a galley kitchen and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square, kitchens made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Petts Wood, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Gas work is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting day works
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
- The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Ask for a quote
To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Advice
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Do you cover homes near Petts Wood station?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Petts Wood?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It’s useful to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, get in touch through our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
The problems bespoke kitchens solve
Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- A kitchen island with room around it
If your children go to Crofton Junior School or a school nearby, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
What to check before you book
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
Bespoke kitchens in Petts Wood: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Petts Wood were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 71%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Petts Wood, 5 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Bromley has its own. If your street in Petts Wood is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like during the design visit.
For a flat near Petts Wood station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Close to Jubilee Country Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
