Bespoke kitchens for your home in Tooting

About our bespoke kitchens in Tooting

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering tricky gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is built in our workshop. People typically come to us about extra cupboard space and spaces sized for your oven and fridge; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With a large share of homes around Tooting built before 1919, many kitchens still have a chimney breast, which can be built around rather than fought. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before cabinets go against it. Other trades handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Make sure an island will not crowd the room
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, so late changes can be tricky.

Questions we are often asked

Is Tooting in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London, and Tooting is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can you fit bespoke kitchens to the uneven walls of an older house in Tooting?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

Which worktops and appliances can I have?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Bespoke kitchens in Tooting: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Tooting were built before 1919 (about 64%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 12%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The Totterdown Fields Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Tooting. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 22% of households in the area around Tooting live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

If you live in a flat close to Tooting station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Close to Wandle Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your home is one of the older houses near St Augustine, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Tooting is about 2 miles north of Clapham Junction, within the London Borough of Wandsworth. Whether your home in Tooting is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Wandsworth, large and small.

Design visits and fitting in SW17, SW19 and CR4 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street like Vant Road, Byton Road and Avarn Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for bespoke kitchens. We also cover the places around Tooting: Tooting Bec (1 mile north-west), Colliers Wood (1 mile south), Furzedown (1 mile east), Streatham Park (1 mile east) and Summerstown (1 mile north-west). Other parts of Wandsworth we cover include Clapham Junction (2 miles north), Battersea (2 miles north), Putney (3 miles north-west), Wandsworth (2 miles north-west), Southfields (2 miles north-west) and Roehampton (4 miles north-west). Tooting is among the bigger places we cover in Wandsworth.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Tooting

There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking and unloading on your street

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Getting in touch

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • How you want to use the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

How to prepare

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
