Battersea Bespoke Kitchens

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Battersea starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • A layout for a small or awkward room

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Battersea

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and it suits many period homes. Each dresser is made for its wall, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below.

Older homes normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Battersea date from then. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?

In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • A kitchen for a room that is not square
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen

If you live near Imperial Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Battersea homes and bespoke kitchens

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Battersea were built before 1919 (about 48%) and since 2000 (about 20%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 21 entries within half a mile of the centre of Battersea. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. About 49% of households in the streets around Battersea live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

If your children go to Christ Church CofE Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses like Carlyle's House, about 1.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Why bespoke in Battersea?

Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings.

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, use our contact form.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. First, you let us know about the kitchen you have and the one you want.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We don’t arrange those trades, so it’s useful to book them early.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Starting with a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Battersea

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Battersea?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
