Bespoke kitchens for homes in Roehampton
A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose.
Many homes around Roehampton date from the post-war decades. Kitchens from that era are often compact and regular in shape, so cabinets made to the room’s own widths make the most of every wall. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Looking after your furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Make a note of what you use every day
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Mention any parking or lift rules
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on a colder external wall.
What happens on fitting day
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so the right fixings are part of the plan for fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

What else we make in Roehampton
Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more than a row of standard wall units.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- A painted dresser for the kitchen
- A kitchen island with room around it
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
The wider area includes historic houses like Fulham Palace, about 1.3 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How parking will work on your street
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
Questions we are often asked
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Roehampton?
Yes, Roehampton is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do you cover homes near Barnes station?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
How are bespoke kitchens priced?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
What are your kitchens made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours agreed with you.
Kitchens in Roehampton: local notes
In the streets around Roehampton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 46%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Roehampton is in the Dover House Estate Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 65% of households in the neighbourhood around Roehampton live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Margaret's Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If you live in a flat close to Barnes station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Roehampton
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
Getting in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Examples of the look you’re after
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and normally cost less, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. In a flat with stairs or a small lift, large flat-pack units can be hard to get in, while fitted furniture arrives in sections made to fit the route. It is then assembled in the room.
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
