Fitted wardrobes for homes in Tooting
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. Most enquiries start with a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use and wardrobes that are full to bursting; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Older bedrooms normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Tooting date from then. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Where other trades come in
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bedrooms in Tooting: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 64% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Tooting, with about 12% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Tooting include Gala Bingo Club (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west, and Franciscan Primary School (Grade II), less than half a mile east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. A van working in Tooting will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
If your children go to St Boniface RC Primary School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If you live in a period home close to St Augustine, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Close to Wandle Park? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly for a smooth finish. The colour is agreed at the design stage.
Doors and drawer fronts
Door styles range from simple flat fronts to panelled ones. You choose a colour that matches or contrasts with the room.
Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the measuring visit.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design.
- We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
- We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers.
Before we arrive
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Is Tooting in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes, we work across Wandsworth, Tooting included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Tooting?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
How do I get a quote?
Simply tell us about the room on our contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, followed by a written quote.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
How long will the fitting take?
The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.
Pricing fitted wardrobes in Tooting
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How big the furniture is
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.
What to send when you contact us
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.
