Clapham Junction Bespoke Kitchens

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Clapham Junction starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • Room for everything in the kitchen

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Clapham Junction

We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us before anything is made in our workshop. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about making the most of a galley kitchen and extra cupboard space.

Around Clapham Junction, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house, or in a side return that has since been extended. Cabinets are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How it is made

Plinths and scribe strips

We use plinths and adjustable feet to level the units on a sloping floor. Scribe strips follow the wall.

Spray-painted finish

We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish.

Bespoke kitchens in Clapham Junction: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the streets around Clapham Junction, with about 20% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 21 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Clapham Junction. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Wandsworth is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Clapham Junction fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

If your children go to Christ Church CofE Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. For a flat near Clapham Junction station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step

In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and talk through the layout, storage and finish, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Before we arrive

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

How to get a quote

To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Advice

Where other trades come in

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Larders and dressers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Questions we’re often asked

My home in Clapham Junction is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

My house in Clapham Junction is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

What are your kitchens made from?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How long does fitting take?

It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Yes, where there is space. We measure at the design visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors. If it would crowd the kitchen, we’ll say so.

Which worktops and appliances can I have?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, so hinges allow small adjustments later.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.
