Bespoke kitchens for your home in Southfields

Bespoke kitchens in Southfields

A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. If you are living with a kitchen finished in your colours and a painted dresser for the kitchen, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Older homes usually have generous ceiling heights, and around Southfields, a large share of homes are that age. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the paint finish is agreed in your quote.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

Honest limits

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can use our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Southfields

My home in Southfields is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Southfields?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, so the worktop you choose can sit level. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Is bespoke worth it?

A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why choose us

  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Work across the whole of London

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. Painted cabinets, a dresser or a larder can sit well with original features and look as if they belong.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A kitchen finished in your colours
  • An island where space allows
  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls

Living in a block of flats near Earlsfield station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Birch plywood

Deep pan drawers need a strong box, and birch plywood suits them.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a softer, traditional look in a period house.

Bespoke kitchens in Southfields: local notes

About 57% of the homes in the streets around Southfields went up before 1919, and about 14% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 10 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Southfields. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If your home is one of the older houses near St John the Divine, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If you live near King George's Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
