Cyprus Built-in Bookshelves

We make built-in bookshelves for homes in Cyprus, designed around the room you have. We design your built-in bookcase at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A home library or study
  • Bookcases that lean or wobble
  • Wasted wall space around a door or window

Built-in bookshelves in Cyprus

Before and after fitting day

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:

  • Let us know where the heaviest things will go
  • Check the heights of art books, files and records
  • Ask your electrician about sockets early
  • Think about cupboards below for things you’d rather hide

If you have adjustable shelves, move them when they’re empty, and check the supports are fully seated.

If you see damp behind or near the shelving, look into it early. Damp needs its cause fixing by the right trade, and it’s easier to deal with before it spreads.

Built-in bookshelves for homes in Cyprus

The right depth depends on your books. Paperbacks sit happily on shallow shelves, while art books, atlases and records need more. Deep shelves let small books disappear behind each other, while shallow ones leave large books overhanging. Deeper cupboards below and shallower shelves above often work well. We make built-in bookshelves from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are alcoves beside the chimney breast going to waste and space for art books and records.

In a home built since 2000, the aerial point and sockets are usually already fixed in place. A good number of homes around Cyprus went up since 2000, so we design built-in bookshelves around the existing points rather than moving them. If you want an extra socket, that is for your electrician.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Living-room storage in Cyprus

In the area around Cyprus, the largest groups of homes date from between 1973 and 1999 (about 44%) and the years since 2000 (about 42%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Cyprus, Historic England’s list includes Gallions Hotel (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Central Buffet at Custom House (Grade II), under half a mile west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 4% of homes around Cyprus were built before 1919, well below the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We check what the walls are made of at the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.

If you live near Beckton District Park, built-in bookshelves can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. Eastbury Manor House, about 2.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for built-in bookshelves. For a flat near Woolwich station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Cyprus is about 2 miles north-west of Plaistow, in the London Borough of Newham. Homes in Cyprus are part of the area we cover for built-in bookshelves. Cyprus is one of the places in Newham where we make built-in bookshelves, and the borough has 26 places on our list.

We work across the E6 and E16 postcode area for built-in bookshelves. Streets in the area include Strait Road, Harper Road and Trader Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for built-in bookshelves. If you are just outside Cyprus, we also cover Beckton (1 mile north-east), North Woolwich (1 mile south), Royal Docks (1 mile west), East Ham (1 mile north) and Custom House (1 mile west). Other parts of Newham we cover include Plaistow (2 miles north-west), Stratford (4 miles north-west), Canning Town (2 miles west), Forest Gate (3 miles north-west), Upton Park (2 miles north-west) and Greengate (2 miles north-west).

Around Cyprus

Around Cyprus, we cover homes near Oasis Academy Silvertown and London Design and Engineering UTC and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Woolwich station, about 1.3 miles south of the centre. Nearby you will also find North Woolwich Old Station Museum (0.7 miles south) and Gallions Reach Shopping Park (0.7 miles east).

What happens on fitting day

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how much shelving there is and how many cupboards sit below it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch with some details about where the bookshelves will go.
  2. We visit to measure the wall, the openings and the skirting, cornice and picture rail the shelves must meet.
  3. We then send a quote in writing for the bookshelves.
  4. The sections are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the shelving in your home, scribing the edges to follow the walls and ceiling, so there are no gaps along the sides.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once the shelves are in place.

Before fitting day

  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Arranging a design visit

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Your questions about built-in bookshelves in Cyprus

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Cyprus?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Do you make built-in bookshelves for homes in Cyprus?

Yes, Cyprus is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

How do I get started?

It is easiest to message us from the contact page with some details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

When you need someone else

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Decorating the rest of the room
  • Electrical work, like new sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Repairing loose plaster or weak walls before fitting

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Pricing built-in bookshelves in Cyprus

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The width and height of the space

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Getting in touch

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, use our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
