Fitted cupboards in Farthing Street: what you get

We build each fitted cupboard for the space it will live in. It can rise to the ceiling or stop at a height that suits the room, and it’s trimmed to the walls so there are no awkward gaps. We fit them in hallways, on landings, in utility and boot rooms and in alcoves, with the inside planned around what you want to store. If your home has landing shelves for bedding and towels and floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Farthing Street, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What affects the price in Farthing Street

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Parking near your home
  • The number of doors and drawers

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you get in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. Common questions about fitted cupboards

Is Farthing Street in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. Farthing Street is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Bromley and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Farthing Street?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

Can a fitted cupboard cover the meters and fuse board?

Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly and still leaves them reachable. We don’t move meters or fuse boards, as that is a job for your supplier or electrician.

Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes. We design the cupboard to keep the clearances and ventilation set out in the boiler maker’s instructions, with doors that open wide for servicing. Any work on the boiler itself is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. We start with the space and what you want to store, including anything tricky like a boiler or meter.
  2. We visit to measure and check how level the floor and walls are.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

How to prepare

Advice

How it is made

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which makes it good for shelves and drawer boxes. You can leave the layered edge on show or paint it.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site once everything is in place. It is easy to touch up later.
