Fitted Cupboards in Farnborough

In Farnborough, we design fitted cupboards around the room you actually have. We design your fitted cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • Making use of an awkward alcove or corner
  • Using the full height of a room

Fitted cupboards designed for your room

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Landings often have a corner or a stretch of wall that does nothing. We can turn it into a linen cupboard, or storage for bedding and spare towels, with shelves set at the heights you choose. The doors are planned so they open cleanly on a narrow landing. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about boxing in a boiler with room for servicing and tall cupboards where space is short.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Farnborough, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

What happens on fitting day

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us about fitted cupboards.
  2. We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways. It helps to let us know about parking then, as a van usually needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

How to get a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, use our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Making use of awkward spaces in Farnborough

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 31% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Farnborough, with about 27% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The Farnborough Village Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Farnborough. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Bromley sets its own rules. If your road in Farnborough falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

If you live near South Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. Living in a block of flats near Orpington station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For a family home near Farnborough Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Looking after your furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Make sure walls are dry before we fit
  • Measure the route into the room not just the room
  • Think about what each cupboard will hold
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can typically be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and small marks can often be cleaned off with a soft cloth. It is worth keeping a record of the colour.

Before the design visit, think about what will go in each cupboard. A coat cupboard and a linen cupboard need quite different insides, and knowing this early saves changes later.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Common questions about fitted cupboards

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Orpington station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What do fitted cupboards cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each cupboard is different, so we price it after measuring. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

It is made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

How is the furniture painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Bespoke fitted cupboards or ready-made?

Flat-pack cupboards can be put together quickly by a confident DIYer, and that’s a real advantage. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, but it is built around your space. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
