Shelves

Adjustable shelves let you change the layout later as your storage changes.

Plinths and scribe strips

We use a plinth to set the cupboard level on an uneven floor. Scribe strips close the gap to a wall that isn’t straight.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Hacton

A utility or boot room has to work hard, every day. We can build tall cupboards for the vacuum, ironing board and mop, with housing for a washing machine or tumble dryer where you want it. Plumbing is for your plumber and new sockets for your electrician, and we leave room for their work in the design. We make fitted cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are storage for coats and shoes in the hallway and storage for towels and bedding.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Hacton, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Honest limits

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Any plumbing in a utility room
  • Wiring for lights or sockets
  • Changes to meters, which are for your supplier or an electrician

Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Hacton homes and fitted cupboards

About 42% of the homes in the area around Hacton went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 29% between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than a third of the homes in the area around Hacton (about 42%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Interwar houses often have room in the hall and the box room for fitted cupboards. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 72% of households in the streets around Hacton, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

If you live near Hornchurch Country Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near St Matthews Church Hall, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. Rainham Hall, about 2.1 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.

Pricing fitted cupboards in Hacton

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The internal fittings
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Let us know about meters and boilers in the space
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • List what you want to store before the design visit
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Your needs may change once the cupboards are in use. Shelves can be set at heights that suit you, so the space keeps working.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on your lease, and it’s best done early.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Hacton

Is Hacton in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. Hacton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Hacton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

What are your cupboards made from?

Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

What do fitted cupboards cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each cupboard is different, so we price it after measuring. To get started, get in touch through our contact form.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You get in touch and let us know whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
  2. We visit to measure and plan the cupboard so meters, fuse boards and any boiler stay easy to reach. Boiler work itself is for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
  3. A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with the access planned in.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
